Arrive stress-free — plan ahead

  • If driving from DC or Northern Virginia, leave by noon on Friday July 24 to beat peak I-95 South / I-64 traffic which backs up badly from 3–7 PM.
  • The Downtown Tunnel (I-264) has a 13'6" height restriction — RVs, camper vans, and tall vehicles must use the Berkley Bridge alternate route.
  • Always take the I-295 bypass around Richmond instead of driving through downtown on I-95 — saves 20–40 minutes during peak hours.
  • The hotel parking garage is the most convenient option — but Crawford Street Garage next door is slightly cheaper and just a 1-minute walk.
  • Street parking on Water Street and Crawford Street is free on Sundays — perfect for the worship service morning.
  • The Elizabeth River Ferry ($2) is the best and most scenic way to travel between the Renaissance Portsmouth and the Norfolk hotels — runs every 30 minutes.
  • Carpool between reunion events when possible — parking fills up on Saturday with the banquet and reduces your costs for the weekend.
  • For the Saturday banquet, consider taking a rideshare or the ferry if you plan to enjoy beverages — always get home safely.
  • The hotel front desk can arrange valet parking or recommend local parking apps for real-time availability and pricing.
